I'm curious, is it possible?

If you're approved as an author on it, then yes. You also have your own personal Kinja blog (yourname.kinja.com).

You can comment anywhere (though in the live version of Kinja you will be grey anywhere you are not followed by the blog you are commenting on, or are an author there). You can create new posts on the blogs you are an author on. If you are an author on Oppo and your own blog then these would be the only blogs you have in your drop down. (see picture for example - I included both New and Old kinja views just in case - I am an author on several different blogs here, the ones listed under "your blogs" or "my blogs" depending on Kinja version)

How would I become an author elsewhere? Like groupthink?

A lot of the other sites have open calls for new posters. GT has sporadic invite threads (like this one: http://groupthink.jezebel.com/groupthink-inv… ) and many of the other sites behave similarly. Oppo is among the most open in terms of authorship (and we have nearly 2000 authors here, which is insane).
I'd recommend lurking for a bit on any of them before requesting authorship. I actually participate in nearly all of the above blogs (I rarely visit Hackerspace and Whitenoise, but every space on that list I can tell you about it).

If I actively participate on many of them, does that make me...
Oh...
Let's see, Clashtalk? Yep. Crosstalk? Yep. GroupBlogTest is a play area that the Gawker IT folks mess with that I got invited to help with because I reported so many errors (yay?). Groupthink? Yep. Hackerspace? not much, but a neat place. Mezzotempo? Yep (and moderate too!). Observation Deck? Yep. Oppo? Never. Photography? Yep (again, mod) and Whitenoise? I was prolific when it started, less so now. Crazy.

It amazes me you still have time for work, family, and beer

multi-tasking. And choosing threads to interact with rather carefully. It's come at the price of interacting on the front pages. Which I only do sporadically now.
